"COVID-19 has solidified the thought process that the perimeter no longer exists; it is now all about remote work and BYOD," he says.

What technologies can help organizations achieve a zero trust architecture? "To start with, one should invest in remote browser isolation, MFA, single sign-on and software-defined perimeter," says Cunningham, who will be a speaker at Information Security Media Group's Virtual Cybersecurity Summit: Zero Trust to be held Feb. 2-3.

In this video interview, Cunningham also discusses:

  • The evolution of zero trust;
  • How zero trust can work in a hybrid cloud environment;
  • The relevance of zero trust outside of security.

Cunningham is a principal analyst serving security and risk professionals at Forrester. His research guides client initiatives related to security operations centers, planning and optimization, counterthreat operations, encryption, network security and zero trust concepts and implementation. He helps senior technology executives with their plans to leverage comprehensive security controls and the use of a variety of standards, frameworks and tools to enable secure business operations.
