Rajesh Pant Describes India's New Requirement to Use 'Trustworthy' Equipment
Lt. Gen (retired) Rajesh Pant, national cybersecurity coordinator at India's Prime Minister’s Office, explains in an interview why the government is requiring telecom service providers to only use equipment that’s been certified as trustworthy (see: India Moves Toward Limiting What Telecom Tech Be Used).

“We have come up with a national security directive for the telecom service providers, stating that any equipment connected to the network after June 15 should be from the trusted product procured from a trusted source,” he says in an interview with Information Security Media Group.
He also offers insights on:

- Criteria and parameters for testing the products;
- Protecting the telecom sector against growing cyberattacks.
As national cybersecurity coordinator in the national security council of India at the prime minister's office, Pant is responsible for coordinating all cybersecurity activities across multiple sectors. He holds a Ph.D. in information security metrics. He previously headed the Army's cyber training establishment for three years. He served in the Army Signals Corps for 41 years and was honored three times by the president of India for distinguished service.
