The exponential increase in encrypted internet of things traffic over the next few years will change security dynamics because most security solutions cannot process encrypted traffic, contends Sanjay Gangadharan of A10 Networks.

"One hundred percent encrypted traffic is going to be a reality as we move forward, and that will add to a lot of security-related challenges," Gangadharan says.

"If you bring malware in through a secure tunnel, no security devices are going to be able to challenge this, unless the security infrastructure has the granular capability to understand and identify legitimate application traffic." (See: Fighting Application Layer DDoS Attacks)
