Bud says the pandemic has exacerbated the problems in verifying identities.

“Today, there are two problems in identity proofing,” Bud says. “One is remotely figuring out whether a document is authentic or not. The other is figuring out whether a person is authentic or not. In both cases, technology has created some increasingly formidable challenges to that.”

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Bud discusses:

  • Addressing evolving fraud trends, such as the use of deepfakes;
  • Where identity proofing is seeing the highest levels of uptake;
  • The emergence of national digital identity issuance.

Bud is the founder and CEO of iProov, the London-based provider of large-scale face-based authentication services to the private and public sectors worldwide. iProov has pioneered the delivery of Genuine Presence Assurance, providing strong verification that an online user is real. iProov customers include the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the NHS, the U.K. Home Office and ING. Before starting iProov in 2012, he was at Mblox Inc., which he founded in London in 2000 and led to become the world’s largest provider of commercial text messaging. Previously he led innovations in the mobile communications industry in Britain and Italy.
