Next-Gen CISO: The Custodian of Digital Trust

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the roles and responsibilities of CISOs were centered around protecting IT infrastructure. Today, however, the role has changed and is closely aligned with the business and its associated risks. A CISO is also the custodian of digital trust and privacy.

CISOs now have to consider business risk as a crucial factor because greater risk tolerance allows businesses to expand their operations.

"Today, businesses are increasingly dependent on the CISO to give them the context on how much more risk the organization can take," said Debashish Jyotiprakash, vice president of the Asia region at Qualys.

As IT infrastructure moved out of the perimeter during the pandemic, CISOs had to ensure the same standards for cybersecurity and address new risks posed to the organization. Today, the focus is on embracing digital technology and enhancing digital experiences for customers.

"When you take on a new digital project, you have to accept that it can introduce new risks. Cyber risk is becoming a business risk. And this is critical for CISOs to address today," Jyotiprakash said.
