"The telecom sector is trying to address ransomware from every aspect. The sector is prioritizing vulnerability management and visibility, as well as building an incident response team," Hossain says.

Al Mamun talks about the requirement to include a breach notification mandate in the country's upcoming data protection law. "My personal opinion is that a breach notification mandate should be part of the data protection bill. I think 48 hours is good enough for identifying and analyzing an incident. However, once reported, efforts should be made to keep the confidentiality," he says.

"More than tools, I would rather bet on the process - it is all about awareness. The business and the IT team need a solid coordination. Only then we will be able to mitigate attacks, including ransomware," says Sarkar.

In this video interview, the three also discuss:

  • How much enterprises in Bangladesh are concerned about ransomware;
  • What needs to be done to fight against ransomware attacks;
  • How the breach notification mandate can help in the fight against ransomware.

Hossain has more than 22 years of diversified experience in information technology, cybersecurity, IT service management and project management and has held various positions in multiple multinational companies, including Wipro and Accenture.

Al Mamun has more than 15 year of experience in the information technology field, including more than 11 years of hands-on experience in information and cybersecurity. He has been a key member of the information security team at many organizations and has successfully implemented several security solutions, including SOC, DLP, SIEM and PAM.

Sarkar has more than 25 years of experience in IT and cybersecurity and is a pioneer in spearheading the cybersecurity movement in Bangladesh.
