Workforce Development: Reducing Barriers to EntryJohn McCumber of (ISC)2 on Cybersecurity Staffing and Education Essentials
Ongoing cybersecurity workforce problem: There are too few people to fill the ever-expanding roster of information security jobs. To help, (ISC)2's director of cybersecurity advocacy, John McCumber, says his non-profit training and certification organization is continuing to attempt to lower barriers to entry into the field, not just at the workforce level - for new and existing workers - but by also fostering technology education for children.
Other efforts, including the U.S. government's National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education, or NICE, are also helping to foster more cybersecurity education, training and workforce development, he says.

McCumber is director of cybersecurity advocacy at (ISC)2. He previously worked as a director at Gartner, a senior manager at Mandiant and served as chairman of TechAmerica's cybersecurity committee, among other roles. He's also held positions at RSA, Symantec and Agilent and was a cryptologic fellow at the National Security Agency.
